Sermon

The B-I-B-L-E

Theme

God’s word is true. You can trust the Bible all the time.

Object

A Bible, a sweepstakes contest entry form, a few magazine ads for products

Scripture

Psalms 119:160 The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.

You may have seen a sign on a telephone pole that said: Lose 30 lbs. in 30 days. Do you think that is a true statement? Or you may have seen a magazine ad for Uncle Sam cereal that claims “ it is the best bowl of cereal you’ll ever have in your life”. Do you think that is true? You may have watched the weather report on TV or heard it on the radio – is the weatherman always correct? If he says it won’t rain is that always correct? Or maybe you have read something on the internet or have listened to your classmate tell you something on the playground – does that make it true? I got a letter in the mail the other day saying that I may have won $10 million in a contest. Do you think I really won $10 million?

You can’t always believe what people tell you all the time, what you read in a magazine or hear on the radio or watch on TV or the internet. Is there anything we can rely on 100% of the time? (Hold up the bible) This is something you can always believe is true. God’s advice, God’s instructions and God’s promises. Song: The B-I-B-L-E Yes, that's the book for me I stand alone on the Word of God The B-I-B-L-E

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus for giving us the Bible to guide us. Help us to grow close to you and to live our lives so others want to be close to you, too.
