Sermon Title: "Are You Ready?"

Scripture Reading: Luke 21:25-36

ALARM FREEZING: Let children run around a designated area and when they hear an alarm (teacher's choice of type of alarm or whistle), they FREEZE in whatever position they're at.... when the alarm rings again - the children will begin running and hopping and jumping, etc, until the ALARM rings again. Continue to play as time allows.

ALARM HIDE AND SEEK: The teacher can hide objects before class in a designated area. These will be objects that the children can NOT go near. Give the children an object to FIND (such as a Bible, a toy, a shoe, etc) but if the child/or children get near other objects-- an ALARM will ring and the children must RUN quickly away from that area. If letting each child play separately, then just give each child 60 seconds to look for the object that the teacher has told the child to find and then it will be the next child's turn!

GET READY HUNT: Type the Bible verse on as many pieces of paper as there are children. Hide the verses around the room. When the teacher says, GET READY, GET SET... GO!... the children wil then HUNT for the Bible verse and then join a circle when they have found it.

STAND AND LOOK UP: As the children sit in a circle on the floor, the teacher or another designated reader can begin to read the Bible verse and when the 'STAND AND LOOK UP' words come, instruct all the children to quickly STAND AND LOOK UP. The last one standing will move away from the circle and continue to play until the last one is left... and then have the children try to recite the Bible verse together.

COTTON CLOUDS: Give children construction paper and cotton balls and markers -- to draw BIG clouds and glue pieces of pulled apart-cotton balls to the edges of the clouds.Write BE READY FOR CHRIST'S RETURN on the clouds, as well as ARE YOU READY, etc.

BE READY MOBILE: Cut out large round clouds and color and glue a little cotton to the edges of the clouds. Write BE READY on one cloud, WORSHIP on another cloud, BIBLE STUDY on another cloud and PRAYER on the last cloud, Hang these clouds from a plastic hanger for the children to hang in their bedrooms or in their SS classroom.

BE ALERT: As the teacher calls out the following phrases, have the children make the faces that match the alert -- such as KEEP ALERT AT ALL TIMES (children should open their eyes as big as possible); PRAY THAT YOU WILL BE STRONG (children should bow their heads and fold their hands); DON'T LET THAT DAY CATCH YOU BY SURPRISE (children can act surprised).

ALARM CHALKBOARD FUN: Let the children stand in a line or number off 1 - ___ (as many children as there are in the class). As the teacher sounds off the ALARM, let first child run to the chalkboard and draw something from today's lesson such as a big cloud; then the next ALARM will sound from the teacher and that child can write in the cloud or draw something else about today's lesson such as big surprised eyes or a Bible or a church, etc. Continue until all the children have had a turn to chalk draw!!!

ALARM TREATS: The teacher can tell the children that whenever they hear two quick alarms or whistles at the same time any time during classtime today, they can quickly jump up and run to the candy basket and get ONE small treat.... or the teacher can have a bowl of M & M's on the table and at the ALARM the children can each take one candy, etc.

SING A SONG: Let the children make up their own tunes as a class or as groups with today's prayer of FATHER, WE THANK YOU FOR SENDING YOUR SON TO EARTH TO SAVE US FROM SIN. WE ARE ALSO THANKFUL THAT HE HAS PROMISED TO COME AGAIN. WE WANT TO BE READY!
