Sermon Title: "As I Have Loved You" Scripture Reading: John 15:9-17 |
| SUCKER RELAY: Divide children into teams or groups. Each team will run a relay back and forth, back and forth, back and forth until every player has run and until the time clock is up, such as running for 3 minutes, etc. Children will take turns running to a bucket filled with small suckers and each player will grab just ONE sucker and run back to the team and put it in the team bucket, and then then the next player will do the same, continuing until the time is up. Children can count their suckers and see which team had the most. Tell children that each sucker/candy stands for other boys and girls who need to be shown God's Love.
BUBBLE POPPING: Give children a small bottle of bubbles and let them blow as many bubbles as possible for a certain time limit. Tell children that there are MORE boys and girls, men and women than all the bubbles that they have blown, who need to know about God's Love. LOVE RUN: All the children can be in a designated area and when the teacher says... GO FIND GOD'S LOVE, the children will run and hunt for all the words of GOD"S LOVE that they can find taped all around the room and run back to quickly tape their words on a poster board and continue to hunt for words until the time is up! PEOPLE CHAIN: Provide children with strips of construction paper that are all the same length and size. Children will be given a 4 or 5 minute time restraint to make as many paper loops, hooked into each other to form a long chain. Tell the children that each colored loop stands for all the children and adults , no matter what color, that need to know GOD's Love. PEOPLE FOLD OUTS: Each child can fold a piece of construction paper 3 or 4 times lengthwise. On the top sheet of the paper, trace a simple "person" drawing and cut the traced person, but NOT cutting at the fold of the paper where the hands would be. When opened up, the "person" should turn into 3 or 4 people and children can hang all the people on the wall as ones who need to know GOD's love for them. Children could write words from today's lesson on their "people", such as GOD's Love, today's Bible verse, Jesus loves me, etc. HEART WREATH: Children can each be given a paper plate to lightly color and glue or tape colored hearts all around the edge of the plate. Write today's Bible verse around the inside middle section of the plate. HEART BUTTONS: Give each child a piece of poster board and markers and stickers to decorate a button that can can hung around the neck or pinned on the child's shirt. Encourage children to write today's Bible verse on their button. LOVE PRAYER BAGS: Each child can be given a lunch bag to decorate with markers and stickers. The child will then have cut out hearts to write a name of someone they know on each heart and place all of their name hearts INSIDE the lunch bag. Encourage children during the week to take one heart out of the LOVE BAG and say a prayer for that person to know GOD's LOVE that day. If children would like to, they could take more than one heart of the bag each day and pray for those children or adults. Make sure that everyone in the class writes their Sunday School classmates names as well as the teacher/leaders! LOVE CARD: Give each child a piece of card stock paper to fold and to write today's Bible verse inside the card. Write GOD'S LOVE on the outside of the card, as well as stickers, glitter, hearts, foam hearts or crosses, etc. Children can be encouraged to stand their LOVE card on their dinner table at home. SING A SONG: JESUS LOVES ME; JESUS LOVES THE LITTLE CHILDREN SHARE A SNACK: Let children decorate HEART SHAPED cookies with frosting and sprinkles and then eat their snack together. If time allows, children can decorate a second cookie to share with someone as they tell of GOD's love from today's story.
