Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." John 20:29 (NIV)

Have you seen these books before? Have you read any of them? What happens in these stories? Yes, the children magically travel to other places and times. Our granddaughter and I were talking about these books recently. We started talking about where or when we would like to travel. How about you? Where would you like to travel or would you like to travel to some other time?

I thought for awhile  and  then I said I would like to travel back to the time when Jesus lived and be able to see him in person. Wouldn't that be great? I would like to do that, but I know it won't be happening for real. That doesn't change what I believe about Jesus though. Just because I didn't get to see him in person does not change my belief in him.

When Jesus was raised from the dead, he appeared to his disciples. One of the disciples whose name was Thomas was not with them. When they told Thomas that they had seen Jesus and that he was alive,  Thomas refused to believe it. He said that he would not believe until he saw the nail prints in his hands. Then when he did see Jesus, he fell on his knees and said, "My Lord and my God." Then he worshipped him right on the spot.

Listen to what Jesus said to Thomas. “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”  That would be us, right? Jesus is saying that we are blessed. We are happy because we are willing to believe in him without actually seeing him. That is a good thing. We have all the proof we need from the Bible and from other believers. We know that Jesus as alive back then and that he is alive now. He is alive within our hearts. We are blessed.
