Scripture

Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever. Psalms 111:3 (NIV)

Today we are reading Psalms 111. When I was your age I would pronounce this book as P-salm. But the P is silent. What is a Psalm? It sounds like the word "song. " Because it is. It is a song of praise.

This Psalm mentions uses the word "forever" to describe God. How often do you think about the word "forever" ? Some words that come to mind. Neverending. Immortality. Everlasting. Infinite.

What are some times that seem to take last forever?

Waiting for Christmas to come. Waiting for a party to start. Waiting for school to end so you can go home and play. For adults, waiting for our tax return to arrive in the mail. Waiting in line for gas at the Costco. (Add something of your choice here.)

There are times that we'd love to last forever. Summer, so we can keep on swimming. Vacation, so we don't have to work or go to school. Friendships. Spending time with people that we care about. People keeping their promises. Unfortunately, all things in our earthly lives come to an end.

There is one "Forever." And it is a good Forever. It belongs to God. The Psalm says, "His righteousness endures forever. He keeps his covenants forever. His creations last forever. He promises everlasting life to those who accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior." We as Christians can take comfort in knowing that Forever is real. How do we know? It's written in God's Word. Let's bow our heads in prayer. Dear God, no matter what happens in our lives, from now until the day we meet Jesus, we can be joyful because you are with us. Amen.
