Sermon Title: "Mountaintop Experiences" Scripture Reading: Luke 9:28-36 |
| TABERNACLE BUILDINGS: (as students arrive): Teacher can have supplies for three "tabernacles" cut out and ready for children to tape together and to write Moses on one, Elijah on one and Jesus on one. (Tabernacles can be made with 8 1/2 x 11" construction paper; fold paper on each long side in to the middle. Cut in half; there will be two pieces - place one inside the other to form all four sides. One side will be a little shorter which will be the entrance to the tabernacle). Children can color tabernacles and be told that we will be learning something about these 3 tabernacles and the names on each! For a picture of what the tabernacle looked like, click here.
MOUNTAIN TOP Paper Maché: Newspaper formed into the shape of a mountain. Paper Maché the mountain and stick toothpicks into it with little triangle banners stuck onto the toothpicks with some mountaintop experience for the children such as birth, first tooth, first day at school, salvation. Discuss that these experiences are starting places, not stopping places! Extra wet toweling will be needed for clean up! Suggest to children to think about mountaintop experiences during the week and bring more ideas the next week. Their mountain will be dried by the next week and perhaps the child with the most ideas could take the Mountain home! CALVARY'S MOUNTAIN picture: Option 1: Chalkboard drawing (Hill, 3 crosses, etc), for students to draw and to write their names on the Mountain with a "t" (cross) if they have accepted Christ as Savior or if they would like to. Discussion about Jesus also being LORD -- so Salvation is the starting point and making Jesus their LORD will continue from that starting point!! A child's salvation tract would be GREAT to hand out today! Option 2: Each child could draw the above Mountain picture and use cross and heart stickers to decorate the mountain, as well as their own name and a cross! MOUNTAIN TOP Painting --- Large poster board available for children to paint the mountain. Teacher will have little slips of paper with "mountain top experiences" for children to choose from and to tape or glue onto the Mountain. Discussion will follow about the experiences and all that God has planned for us as we turn those experiences over to HIM! (God knows the plans He has for us, Jer. 29:11) Song: "I Have the Joy" Arr. by Elaine Kirkpatrick Words and Music (pdf) This song may be freely downloaded and reproduced for religious or educational use by churches, schools, home schoolers, and other non-profit organizations.
