Scripture

Romans 8:28-29 “We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son.” 1 Corinthians 12:27 “All of you together are Christ’s body, and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it.”

As fall approaches the weather is beginning to change and it is getting colder. How many of you like to have soup on a cold day? Soup can really warm up our bodies on a cold day and put a smile on our face. What is your favorite type of soup? My favorite type of soup is stone soup. How many of you have ever had stone soup?

Today we will hear a story about how one village made the best stone soup ever.

READ STONE SOUP TO CHILDREN (Optional: you can have people act the story out or, you can use props as a visual)

How wonderful was it that the villagers each gave an ingredient they had and added it to the soup. By working together they made the best soup ever. This stone soup makes me think of our church, we are all important ingredients of the soup and in order for our church to be successful, we all need to work together and we can do this by adding our talents and ideas to the soup. Just as soup warms our bodies, our church family warms our hearts and puts a smile on our face.

Prayer: Dear God, /Thank you for giving us a purpose and mixing us together. /We know that you will make us tremendous. /Help us to remember that when a family works together/ this can warm our hearts and make us feel whole. Amen.
