Sermon

What Do You Have There?

Theme

We need help.

Object

A bag of items that need something else to make them work. Examples may include, but are certainly not limited to: The beater to a hand mixer A remote control A battery A CD A spoon A flashlight without batteries

Scripture

Ephesians 1:15-23

Have a child pull one item from the bag. Ask that child:

"Do you know what you have there? Will it work as it is? Why not?"

Let's give someone else a try.

(Repeat the process either until each child has had a turn, or you run out of items.)

"Hmmm, you all have items that aren't broken, but they don't work right. Did you know that we are kind of like these things? (Hold up a bible.)

"Do you know what I have here?

"Do you know that this is actually God's love letter to you and me? It's also a kind of owners manual that tells how to make us work right. Some people say it is our

Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth."

Just like these things need another part to be truly useful, we need God in us, to help us become the best we can be. When we live God's way, we work best for His glory. We are rich and complete with Him.He makes us more than we could ever be on our own.

Let's pray.
