Scripture

The whole group of believers was united in their thinking and what they wanted. None of them said that the things they had were their own. Instead, they shared everything. (Acts 4:32))

When I was a little child my mother would always tell me to share and be kind to everyone. I didn’t understand why she wanted me to share when we barely had enough for ourselves and I definitely didn’t feel like being kind to people who wasn’t kind to me- but I did it anyway. After a while sharing and being kind became much more easier for me. I would find myself looking for excuses to give things away that I knew could help someone else. My love for giving and sharing became so extreme that one day I came home from school without my winter coat because I had given it away to another little girl who needed it. Mother was upset at first because I only had that one coat - then she realized that I was only sharing like she told me. A week later a friend of the family heard about the coat story and purchased me the most beautiful coat I had ever seen. Little did I know that God was using me even as a young girl to spread His love through my giving, sharing, and being kind to others.

In our bible lesson (Acts 4:32-35) we read about a group of amazing people. They were a unified bunch, caring for each other’s needs. Their hearts were filled with love for Jesus and bursting with love for one another. Many of the people were moved by the needs of the poor and needy, and they began selling the things they owned and handing over their belongings to the care of the leaders. Their love for Jesus caused everyone needs to be meet. Instead of being stingy holding on to the things they had, they looked upon their property as belonging to all the community. No one said , “that’s mine; you can’t have it.” They shared everything.

When we truly belong to God, everything we have belongs to Him as well. All the things that we have here on earth like our houses, cars, food, clothing and even toys are all blessings from God. He blesses us with these things to be a blessing to others. Everything we have will one day be no more, but the love of Jesus within us will surely last forever.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for the blessings you so generously give us and help us not to be selfish or greedy. Lord show us how we can meet the needs of others. Amen
