Sermon

His Hands

Theme

Eternal Security

Object

Wrapped Candy (enough to have one for each child at the end of the service), a typed note that reads, “Snatch the candy out of the hand.”, and a Bible. You will also need an adult male volunteer to come up and help when you call on him.

Scripture

John 10:28 “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”

Read John 10:28-29 “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”

I am going to need 2 helpers for today’s lesson: one of the younger kids and one of the oldest kids. Let’s start with the youngest helper. I need you to hold your hand flat. I am going to put something in your hand and I want you to try not to let it come out of your hand. Hand the note to the older kid and tell him to follow the directions on the note when you count to three. 1.2.3. Once the older child snatches the candy out of the child’s hands say, “Just like taking candy from a baby, right?” Don’t worry, you can come see me after church and I will give you a piece of candy.

Now, let’s try that again with someone bigger. Mr._______, can you come up and help me. Ask the adult volunteer to hold the candy out the same way and then say on the count of three, try again. The older child may or may not success in getting the candy, but either way say that was much harder wasn’t it. What does that have to do with the verses we read? We know what a snatch looks like, don’t we, but what about God’s hands. God promises us to live forever with him when we accept him as our savior, when we trust Him to save us from our sin and believe that Jesus is God’s son and that he paid the price for us on the cross. He says we are forever in His hands. What do we know about God’s hands? (Give the kids a chance to answer.)

Let’s see what the Bible says about God’s hands.

Read each scripture with emphasis:

Job 12:10 “In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”

Job 36:32 “He fills his hands with lightning and commands it to strike its mark.”

Psalm 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands”

Psalm 95:4 “In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.”

Isaiah 40:12a “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens?

Wow! Look at the hollow of your hand. Can you image all the oceans of the earth in it? And look how wide your hand is, can you image that you could measure how big the heavens are with you hand? God can! I am so glad I am in His hands!

Now let’s read this month’s verse and picture God’s hands!

John 10:28 “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
