Scripture

For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.' But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear. Mathew 13:15-16 (NIV)

I never really understood these verses (Matthew 13:15-16) until I got glasses. How can people, like the Pharisees, who know the Scriptures and the prophecies about the Messiah hear Jesus speak, see his miracles, and watch him fulfill every one of the prophecies, but not see that he is the Christ. It’s so clear to us that he could be no one but who he claims to be, the Messiah!

Before I got my glass, I never realized that I couldn’t see as well as everyone else. I just took it for granted that that was how everyone sees things. It never occurred to me that I could see things more clearly. When I first put on my new glasses I couldn’t believe I had much better everything looked, and now that I know how much better my vision can be I don’t want to go back to seeing things the way I used to see them. Sure, I could get around and tell what things were well enough, but why would I want to settle for that when I know how much better things can be?

I think that’s kind of how it is with the world. People live their lives without God, not realizing that there’s something better out there. Without knowing that they can see things in a whole new way. But we know, and have experienced living in God’s love, so now we can’t imagine living any other way.
