MONEY PICK UP: Children will be allowed to HUNT for pennies that are scattered around a designated area. Tell children that they are working for something that will benefit them, just as mom's have children do with their chores. If the teacher wants to make this game more of a challenge, the money can be scattered in a dark room and children can use flashlights to find the money.
DO WHAT I DO: Let the children spread out in a large designated area with one child, leader or teacher in the middle. They will say, DO WHAT I DO! Children will continue to do what the leader does until the leader changes the activity and then will say DO WHAT I DO! These activities can be hopping, skipping, jumping, etc.
MOTHER HUNT: The teacher will cut out letters for each student to spell M-O-T-H-E-R, so that the children can EACH hunt for their own set of M-O-T-H-E-R letters. Then the children will glue the letters on a piece of construction paper. Children can add "I LOVE" at the top of the MOTHER paper, or cut out a red heart and add, "I (heart)" MOTHER.
MOM CUP: Provide children with a plastic glass or a styrofoam cup and construction paper to decorate and tape around the glass or cup. The children can decorate the cup "wrapper" with MOM, stickers, or foam cut outs. Give children a juice or hot chocolate packet to place in the container for mom to use!
INK FINGER PRINTS: Give each child a piece of construction paper and an ink pad to make ink finger prints on the paper. Children can then add arms and legs, hair and other decorations to make a FAMILY picture to give to mom. Children can make people out of the finger prints, but also animals as desired.
I LOVE MOM BOOKLET: Children can be given several pieces of various colored paper to staple or yarn tie together. Markers or crayons and stickers can be used to draw pictures or write words on each piece of paper of all the reasons that the child loves their mom. Encourage children to give this little booklet to their mothers.
FLOWER POT HAND: Give each child a piece of construction paper and a cut out of a flower pot. Then children can trace one hand and place a happy face sticker or flower pieces of foam on each finger tip. The children can glue the bottom of the hand to the top of the flower pot cut-out and write their name on the top of the flower pot. Children can write I LOVE YOU MOM, or a poem or a typed out verse that the teacher could give them to tape and color on the flower pot. Give to mom today as a gift.
LOLLIPOP BOUQUET: Give children each about 5-8 lollipops and tie together with colorful yarn or ribbon, after binding together with a rubber band. Children can give the "bouquet" to their mothers for a gift today.
MOM ACCORDIAN CARD: Children can be given heavier paper or poster board paper to write M-O-M and color each letter. Letters should be large BLOCK or BUBBLE letters that the children can cut out and then tape the edges together so that the letters will stand up when folded out.
SING A SONG: (To the tune of JESUS LOVES ME). ... I LOVE MOMMY, YES I DO, AND I KNOW SHE LOVES ME TOO; MOMMY LIKES TO HEAR ME SAY, THAT I LOVE HER EVERY DAY. YES I LOVE MOMMY, YES I LOVE MOMMY, YES I LOVE MOMMY AND I WILL TELL HER SO.
SNACK TIME: Let children frost or decorate a large cookie or a cupcake for their mothers. Children will enjoy decorating and eating one for themselves, as well!
