Sermon Title: "I've Just Seen Jesus"

Scripture Reading:  John 20:1-18

PICTURES OF JESUS: Hang many large and small pictures of Jesus around the room. (Some could be as small as stickers.) The teacher will say, "Find pictures of Jesus" and the children will begin to see how many pictures they can find. Some some of the pictures should be very small make it a little harder to find them all! Behind some of the larger pictures, the teacher can have parts of our Bible lesson, written on the back. As the story is told, the teacher can have the children read the part that is on THEIR picture!

HIDE AND SEEK: Let the children play a game of hide and seek. Whenever they look in a place that is empty and no one is hiding there, the children will shout... HE IS NOT HERE and continue to play in various areas for hiding as time allows.

TOMB ART: Give the children supplies to make a TOMB picture using a piece of black felt, Easter grass, feathers to represent the birds in the sky, and imitation flower petals to glue onto the picture. They will also draw a picture of Mary standing by the tomb. Encourage the children to use their imagination to make the story come alive! On the complete picture, the children will write "I’VE JUST SEEN JESUS!"

HE IS RISEN BOOKMARK: Give the children a ribbon or a strip of construction paper to make a book marker with HE IS RISEN! written on it. Attach a piece of colored string tied through a hole punched in the book mark. Have the children place the book marker at John 20 in their Bible.

BIBLE BOOK COVER: Give the children a large piece of construction paper of their color choice. Fold the paper to fit around Bible and add strips of paper with tape to be used as handles. Decorate the Bible cover with markers and stickers. Write HE IS RISEN. JESUS IS ALIVE! on the cover.

“HE’S ALIVE” CROSS: Give the children a cross drawn on a sheet of paper to cut out. Decorate the cross with glue and various colors of glitter in different areas of the cross and write HE’S ALIVE across the cross. Attach a magnet to the back to make a refrigerator magnet.

FINGER PAINTING CROSS ART: Give the children large t-shirts, towels, or aprons to protect their clothing. Let children finger paint for just 5 minutes to smear paint over a large sheet of butcher paper and then use a brush, ,a cotton swab, or their fingers to write JESUS IS ALIVE and and draw crosses around the art work! Have a tub or large bucket full of water for the children to wash hands if a restroom is not available. (Also make sure they don't leave a mess in the restrooms.)

CROSS EGGS: Give each child a hard boiled egg and some markers or stickers to decorate. The children might also glue a strip of paper in a circle make a stand in which to place their egg so that it will stand up.

HOT CROSS BUNS SNACK: Make dinner rolls from a recipe for home-made dinner rolls or use frozen packaged dinner rolls. Bake the dinner rolls ahead of time and then top them off with the traditional icing cross.
