Who Can Make a Seed Grow?

Theme

Object

A small pot filled with soil, a cup of water, and a seed of any kind.

Scripture

"5What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. 6 I planted,Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 7So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 8He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. 9For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field,God’s building. 1 Corinthians 3:5-9 (English Standard Version)

What do I have here? (Allow children to answer.) Why don't we read the epistle for today? (Read the above passage.) So we heard that one person can plant the seed, (You or one of the children can push seed into soil. ) and another one can water it, (someone different can pour small amount of water into soil) we could even have someone put it into the sunlight. But, who makes it grow? (Allow children to answer; any member of the Trinity) That's right! We can plant the seed and tell people about Jesus dying for our sin and being raised from the dead. Someone else can shower them with love. But it is God who will make them a Christian. God is the one who will turn the seed into a plant. God is the one who turns people into Christians. (And if you're in a congregation where you suspect the adults also learn from the object lesson/ children's sermon you can say "God is the one who turns sinners into saints so that we can go to heaven!)
